The World Bank Group is offering $27.7 million to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), to increase the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) annual active membership. The support is to facilitate claims processing and payments for primary healthcare providers comprising CHPS, Health Centers and Maternity Homes under the Primary Health Care Improvement Program for Results (PforR). The monumental program is financed through a World Bank facility with co-financing grants from the Global Financing Facility (GFF), Canada, the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Operation (FCDO), and the Gavi Alliance. In a spate of 42 days (24th May – 7th July 2023), the NHIA has paid its credentialed healthcare providers over GHC471 Million Cedis to cover claims submitted for periods up to January 2023. The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) paid a total claim of GH¢1.014 billion to health service providers as of December 31, 2022, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said. He said that was because the scheme had improved its claims management processes with an emphasis on e-claims and paperless systems at its Claims Processing Centres. The Northern Region continues to record the highest numbers of the National Health Insurance Scheme"s (NHIS) active membership. The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Shani Alhassan Shaibu has attributed the achievement to the effective collaboration between the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) regional secretariat.
