The Eastern Region recorded a total of 14 deaths from malaria in 2022 as against 29 deaths recorded in 2021 There was a total of 31,489 admissions at the various health facilities across the districts in the region due to malaria in 2021 and 36,285 admissions of malaria in 2022. Herbal Medicines Do Not Kill Malaria Parasites – Dr Hanson

Dr. Dorothy Hanson, a Medical Officer at the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH) at Tema, said drinking herbal medicines does not kill malaria parasites but only treats the symptoms. “No matter the number of herbal concoctions patients consume, that will not clear the parasites from their system,” she said, and that most of those who relied on herbal medications always ended up in the hospital for treatment. The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) has disclosed that 90 percent of Ghanaians have malaria parasites and are unaware.
