Nigerian Jailed 15 Years For Human Trafficking

A Nigerian hairdresser who trafficked seven victims from Nigeria to Ghana to engage in prostitution, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. Promise Obianu Awayiaka compelled her victims to shave their pubic hair for ritual. The said ritual was to intimidate the victims to comply with her demands and ensure that they do not escape. Appearing before a Sogakope Circuit Court, Promise, 32, pleaded guilty to seven counts of human trafficking and she was convicted on her plea. Seven Nigerians allegedly belonging to an organised criminal group have been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for their alleged involvement in human trafficking.
