A fuel tanker has been engulfed in flames on Wednesday evening at Enyiresi near Memphis Construction Ltd in the Atiwa East Municipality of the Eastern Region. Thick black smoke and intense flames billowed from the vehicle, forcing nearby residents and passersby to flee for safety. Personnel from the Anyinam Fire Station arrived promptly at the scene and battled the raging fire for hours before bringing it under control. The Ghana National Fire Service averted disaster on Monday, August 19, 2024, by salvaging and transferring spilt fuel into another tank after a fuel truck overturned at Odorkor Tarrazo in the Greater Accra Region. The driver of the fuel tanker, in an attempt to climb a steep hill, lost control of the brakes, causing the truck to reverse into a gutter. The truck then overturned, spilling fuel onto the road. The Tanker Drivers Union has said it is a threat to their business if Chinese refinery, Sentuo Oil, continues to offload fuel locally. According to a member of the Union who spoke to JoyNews, the drivers will stop the transportation of fuel across the country if the act continues.
