The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that the heavy rainfall experienced today, Tuesday, 23 April 2024, has caused outages within its distribution network. In a notice to customers in the Greater Accra Region, the ECG said its “Engineers are working assiduously to restore power supply to affected customers.” It urged customers experiencing power outages within their areas to contact its call center, report to the nearest ECG office or its social media handles. The power-distributing company emphasized “any convenience caused due to this natural occurrence is very much regretted.”

Update on Power Outages Across the Country

As of 10pm yesterday, 10th January, power was restored to the entire country. Wapco suspended the restriction on gas supply after high-level meetings and agreement reached between Wapco and the government. There is no dumsor in Ghana and no one is hiding anything from the good people of Ghana. Currently, we have an installed capacity of 5,138 MW and our peak demand as at 11 December 2023 is 3,618 MW. There is excess capacity to take care of all ongoing maintenance in Tapco, Tico and Akosombo. Wapco issued a letter to GNPC on 8th December for outstanding payments in December.…
