The Education Ministry is insisting that Colleges of Education will not be closed down despite the ongoing strike by members of the Colleges of Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (CETAG) entering day 65. Colleges Of Education To Return To Quota System For Admission

The Government has reintroduced the quota admission system for the 46 accredited Public Colleges of Education, effective the beginning of the 2022/2023 academic year. The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), in a letter to the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) outlined the number of permissible admissions for prospective teacher trainees for the 46 colleges of education. “Please be informed that the allocation cannot be varied and must be strictly adhered to. Colleges Of Education Unable To Feed Students Over Debts To Suppliers

Colleges of Education have sought permission for students to be allowed to feed themselves from November 7, 2022, because of struggles in procuring food items. In a letter from the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) to the Ministry of Education, the colleges attributed the struggles to debts owed to suppliers of food. “Prices of all food items have shot up astronomically, and food suppliers have refused to supply any food items to Colleges because of the indebtedness of Colleges to these suppliers.” There are over 40 colleges of education in Ghana.
