Aston Villa midfielder Philippe Coutinho has joined Brazilian Serie A side Vasco da Gama on a season-long loan. The Brazil international has been loaned out again after spending last season at Al-Duhail in Qatar. The 32-year-old made just two substitute appearances last term before moving to Doha and has scored six goals in 43 games for Villa. Aston Villa 3-1 Manchester United: Unai Emery Gets Off To A Perfect Start

Not even Cristiano Ronaldo could spoil Unai Emery’s first game as Aston Villa boss as the Spaniard got the better of Manchester United once again. Emery’s Villarreal side overcame United on penalties in the Europa League Final last year and the scoreline was far more emphatic here. Ronaldo – surprisingly made captain for the day by Erik ten Hag – had not yet rejoined United when they lost in Poland last May but the Portuguese cut a frustrated figure here as Villa beat United at home in the league for the first time since 1995, ending the Premier League’s longest…

Steven Gerrard Sacked As Aston Villa Manager

Aston Villa have sacked manager Steven Gerrard following Thursday’s 3-0 Premier League defeat at Fulham. Villa have won just twice in the league this season and only sit above the relegation zone on goals scored. A club spokesman said: “We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future.” Gerrard succeeded Dean Smith as Villa manager in November 2021 after leaving his role at Rangers. But the former England and Liverpool midfielder, 42, led Villa to only 13 wins from 40 games during his 11 months in charge. After the defeat…
