Success Of Free SHS Is A Testimony Of How Healthy Ghana’s Economy Has Become
Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh fondly called Napo says the successful handling of the free Senior High School policy in terms of its implementation is a clear indication of how effective the economy of Ghana is being managed.
According to Dr. Opoku Prempeh those who are throwing mud at the double track system, an essential component of the Free SHS, are doing so because “their understanding of the system is shallow. They do not understand the policy’s dynamics and usefulness.”
.
Hon. Opoku Prempeh who was a special guest on Wontumi TV/Radio’s early morning show hosted by Oheneba Nana Asiedu, made a poignant comparison between the pre-free SHS period and the current era and said through the double track as many as 150,000 students are able to attend school each year unlike the old system where 100,000 students were catered for.
“Everything about the free SHS is carefully planned that is why we find the wisdom in putting up a educational structures at where they are most needed unlike the John Mahama’ era where the key issue of convince was ignored. “ He teased the former President.
He said under the current system the SHS campuses have become complex edifices with a massive expansion of existing key ancillary structures and the provision of new ones to complement the free SHS with a principal objective of sustaining the policy.
On funding the reformed educational policy by the NPP, Napo said the government has succeeded to run the system successfully because of proper and proactive planning.
“ We have proved to Ghanaians that like the Good Samaritan, you can’t provide if you are not resourced. Our success arising out of proper planning is refreshing and gives an indication of how well we have managed the economy.”
Napo continued, “ For four years Ghanaians experienced the despicable” Dumsor”, under John Mahama, a situation which compelled students to study and sleep in total darkness.
But in the Nana Addo’s era you no longer hear of the disturbing sound of stand-by generators.
According to Napo the government has introduced a policy that will relieve students of the burden of paying utility bills.
“All these form part of the good policies by the government thus, making it urgent for the Ghanaian electorate to grant Nana Addo a four more years tenure to do more.”
According to Hon. Opoku Prempeh, the election is so crucial to all well-meaning Ghanaians ” because without it all the good policies initiated by the NPP government will be still born.
“In the past four years, there has been an abundance of food. Even in December we still experience rains. These factors among others should condition our minds to begin to count our blessings as Ghanaians and pray that we do not return to the dark old days when John Mahama was at the helm of affairs.”
