Stop Illegal Activities Around Water Bodies- Sanitation Minister Cautions
The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecelia Abena Dapaah, has issued a stern warning to people practicing illegal activities around water bodies to stop.
She said that, it’s not acceptable for people to do illegal activities around the water bodies so therefore the act should be condemned to help eradicate this canker from the system.
“If people do illegal activities around water bodies, the adequate gallons of water per day cannot be produced,” Hon. Abena Dapaah told wontumionline.com when she paid a working visit to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Wednesday.
She added that, about 140,000 persons are being denied access to portable water due to the illegal activities around the water bodies.
She affirmed that, she alone and the President cannot fight the illegal activities around the water bodies and for that matter everybody must be involved.
According to her, when she visited the Odaso river in the Ashanti Region yesterday, she noticed that, people do the galamsey 20 meters close to the river.
She bemoaned that, when the engineers complain about the unlawful act, the actors threaten them with guns and machetes.
Encroachment Problems
Hon. Cecelia revealed that, an estate developer is building houses on the land to be used to make new plant on the Owabi river.
The Sanitation and Water Minister commended Otumfuo for the measures put in place to ensure the safety of the Barekese dam.
