Stop Encroaching Ghana Airport Lands — Kweku Ofori Asiamah Warns

 

The Minister of Transport and Aviation, Kweku Ofori Asiamah has warned persons encroaching the properties of Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) with the penchant of building on the land to put a stop to it.

According to him, there will not be any compensation for them.

“Government is not prepared to pay any unnecessary compensation to those encroaching on our land,” Hon. Asiamah stressed.

The Minister was on his first official tour to the Kumasi International Airport where extension work is currently underway.

Before then, the Minister and his entourage had paid a courtesy call on the overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfour Osei Tutu II to pay homage and seek his blessings.

Briefing the media after the inspection, Mr. Ofori Asiamah expressed satisfaction about the work done by the contractor working on the site, the Contracta.

He believes that the timeline given will be met in respect to the completion of the Phase Two (2).

He also revealed that the the Airport City will be starting by the end of this year to ensure the facility is well positioned.

The project when completed will ensure international flights are flown in and out.

The people in Ashanti Region will no longer go through hustle in boarding floor flights in Accra.

The resident engineer for Contracta Company, Nana Ametekpe reiterated the company’s readiness to meet the deadline.

“June this year the Phase Two will be completed,” he noted.

He assured that they are doing everything possible to finish it and recounted how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected their operations.
