STATEMENT: Wa Traditional Authorities Render An Apology To Vice President Bawumia Over Funeral Donation Mishap

The traditional rulers of Wa on behalf of their people and the Muslim Ummah in general, have rendered an apology to Vice President Dr. Bawumia over a goodwill funeral donation which was rejected by some family members of the late Dr. Suleman Mahama Haroon Bakuri.

As custodians of the land, the traditional authorities stated in a release which was copied to Wontumionline.com that the unfortunate decision taken by the family in question is alien to the customs and tradition of the Wala Traditional Area.

They have therefore assured the Vice President that they are taking steps to ensure such mishap is never repeated again.

RE : WA IMAM’S FAMILY REJECTS DR. BAWUMIA’S FUNERAL DONATION: AN APOLOGY

Our attention has been drawn to a press release issued by the family of the late Imam of the Wa Central Mosque, Dr. Suleman Mahama Haroon Bakuri on 11th September, 2020 captioned as above.

We wish to state that the grounds on which the family under reference took the decision to reject your generous and well intended donation to the said funeral is alien to the customs and traditions of the Wala people and, therefore, most unfortunate. The least we should have been doing as a people was to thank you so much for your recent visits to the Wala Traditional Area in particular and the Upper West Region in general.

Your Excellency, we the traditional authorities would want to, on behalf of all the people in Wa and the Muslim Ummah in general render an unqualified apology for the unfortunate incident.

We want to reassure Your Excellency that we will take steps to ensure that an incident like this never recurs. It is against our customs, traditions, beliefs and practices.

Thank you,

Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV

(Overlord of Wala Traditional Area)

Yeri Naa Alhaji Sualihu Mumuni Sungumo

(Chief of the Muslim Community in Wa)

Imam Alhaji Osman Mahama Kanihi

(Upper West Regional Chief Imam)
