Spouses Of Heads Of State Entitled To Receive Salary- Afigya-Kwabre North MP
Member of Parliament for Afigya-Kwabre North, Hon. Collins Adomako Mensah is emphasizing that, the wives of heads of state are entitled to receive salary.
According to him, first and second ladies receiving salary is nothing new.
He indicated when he appeared on Wontumi Radio/TV Morning Show that, it has been in existence since the era of former President John Agyekum Kufour.
“Hon. Adomako Mensah revealed that, the wives of former President and Vice, John Mahama and Amissah Arthur still receive salary
But he was quick to say that, President Akufo-Addo has noticed that if the first and second ladies receive allowance then it would be good to regularize it.
He said that, the NDC want to create impression that, the pandemic has caused economic hardship and that Akufo-Addo deliberately wants to give salary to the first and second ladies.
However, the Afigya-Kwabre North MP insisted that, article 71 of the constitution states clearly to workers who are to receive salary of which first and second ladies are not included.
“Government can implement a bill to put them in the constitution as article 71 holders,” he said.
He said if the recommendation by the emolument committee is taken into consideration, it would be documented.
