South Africa vs Ghana: C.K Akonnor Admits To Attack Problems After Bafana Bafana Defeat

Ghana coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor says his team was not clinical enough after the defeat to South Africa in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars were shocked after an 82nd-minute strike from Bongokuhle Hlongwane gave the Bafana Bafana all three points at the FNB Stadium.

The win sends South Africa top of Group G after two rounds of games, but Akonnor insists he was satisfied with the performance despite his team’s lack of attacking threat.

“We started well in the first half. We were tactically very disciplined,” explained Akonnor to reporters after the game.

“I mean it went the way we wanted but we were not clinical up front and that was the problem,” he added.

Although the team lost, Akonnor adds it was a game of two halves and blames the second-half performance from his boys for the defeat.

“But I was satisfied with the way we played in terms of controlling the game.”

“In the second half, we somehow lost the game in the midfield with how we wanted to play.

“We believed we could win this match. We did one or two substitutions which went the other way around and somehow, we kept dropping and it affected our game.”
