Some Nkoranza South Residents Still Don’t Take COVID-19 Serious, MCE Laments

The Chief Executive of Nkoranza South Municipality, Hon. Diana Attaa- Kusiwaa,  says some people in her area still  do not take the COVID-19 pandemic  seriously.

According to her, the recalcitrant ones  have a perception that the pandemic is not real  despite the frightening images and reported cases across the world which are  flashed or reported  on television  screens on daily basis.”

Speaking on Election 2020 on Wontumi Radio and TV on Monday, Hon. Attaa- Kusiwaa indicated that, a section of the residents wear the nose masks and observe the protocols while others do the opposite.

But according to her, majority of the people in her area continue to  observe the precautionary measures.

The Hon. Nkoranza South MCE disclosed that, the area recorded one  case in the early stages of the outbreak but the cases later increased to 21.

“So far the total cases in the  Bono East Region is 38.” She said

Touching on how the area fared in the recent voters registration exercise, Hon. Attaa-Kusiwaa remarked  that, the eligible applicants observed the COVID-19 protocols effectively  particularly  the social distancing  with  some nurses positioned at the various centres  to check  the body  temperatures of the applicants.

Hon. Attaa-Kusiwaa commended the Electoral Commission and the NPP party executives in the area for the individual  roles they played to make the  exercise successful.

She however conceded that, “there were indeed a few  skirmishes during the exercise but not major confrontations.”

According to her the population of the area is about 120,000. Out of this  about 62,000 persons registered as compared to the previous exercise which recorded about 64,000 voters.

She disclosed that, “what might have caused the decreased voter population was the serious monitoring embarked upon by the  executives of both  major parties  – NPP and NDC.”
