A New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser aspirant, Salam Mustapha, has withdrawn from the party’s national organiser race, citing circumstances beyond his control.
Mr Mustapha formally communicated his decision in a letter to the Chairman of the NPP National Officers Elections Committee on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
He described the decision as difficult, particularly given the support he had received from party members, delegates, colleagues and other well-wishers across the country.
“This decision has been a difficult one, particularly considering the encouragement, goodwill and overwhelming support I have received from Party members, delegates, colleagues and well-wishers across the country. However, due to circumstances beyond my control, I am unable to continue with my candidature,” he wrote.
He however, did not disclose the specific circumstances that had led him to withdraw from the contest.
Despite his withdrawal, he said his commitment to the NPP remains firm and that he would continue to contribute to the party’s activities.
“My dedication to the Party remains firm, and I will continue to serve and contribute towards its unity, rebuilding and electoral success, and also to make Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the next president of Ghana,” he stated.
He also urged his supporters to accept the decision and maintain their focus on the broader interests of the NPP.
According to him, the pursuit of political office should not overshadow the collective interests of the party.
“Political positions may come and go, but our commitment to the NPP and the future of our Party must remain greater than any individual ambition,” Mr Mustapha said.
He subsequently wished the NPP and the other candidates taking part in the internal elections well.
