Residents of Nyohani South at Tamale, expressed their gratitude to government especially the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, over its decision to get rid of some refuse dumpsites that has contributed to the health torture they have suffered for years.

The Assembly man for the area, Yakubu Hamza in an interview with Wontumionline.com stated that the community has faced several troubles trying to manage the refuse dumpsite in anticipation of improving upon sanitation in the area.

“The refuse has been a problem to the area; not only those closer to it”, he said.

Hon. Yakubu Hamza noted that evacuating the heaped debris, would contribute to improving sanity in the area adding that before the evacuation took place, they have suffered constant mayhem.

“There are several flies distributing illness to the community”, he explained.

As a key member in the community, he promised to ensure that residents of the area don’t return to their old ways of littering indiscriminately after the evacuation exercise has been completed.

The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Salifu Saeed also praised the government of President Akufo-Addo for demonstrating that it believes in the cleanliness campaign.

According to him, the President through the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources has made it clear he wants to use his mandate to keep Ghana clean.

He explained that the Northern region under his watch has launched an emergency evacuation exercise aimed at improving the sanitary conditions of communities suffering from the menace of old aged refuse dumps.
