Reconstruction of Tanoso-Abuakwa Road – Residents Praise Govt. And Promise To Vote Bum-Bum!

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has joined regular commuters of the Tanoso – Abuakwa residents to hail the re-construction of the Tanoso-Abuakwa road corridor which started a few weeks ago.

Chairman Wontumi could not hide his profound joy over the ongoing works on one of the most heavily plied routes linking the Kumasi city centre when he spoke on Wontumi TV and Radio in Kumasi.

Commuters who have become witnesses to the new change have sighed a big relief because of clear and visible signs that their biggest challenge is gradually being phased out and soon the peculiar heavy traffic on that “dreaded road” will be no more.

The famous Abuakwa road’s persistent heavy traffic gave the NPP administration a bad name due to the delay in executing the project.

“When sometime last year a contractor came to fill the pot poles, most of us thought that was all that the president had planned for us because we did not see any sign of its proper reconstruction until lately. ”Said a regular road user.

She continued, “When there was no sign that the contractor would come back to site to do proper reconstruction some of us assumed that it was a deliberate ploy by the government to create discomfort for road users. But now we can conclude that all our assumptions and apprehensions have disappeared, even though some of the residents have adopted somehow, a wait and see attitude.”

It is against this back ground that the determined attempt by the government to fix the problem once and for all has attracted a lot of public interest.

But to Chairman Wontumi, who was reacting to the public sentiments, ” the re-construction which is going on in earnest is an indication that the government means real business. We can’t continue to keep the public in suspense. We shall finish it on time.”

Essentially, what is of concern to him is the inconvenience the ongoing construction works is likely going to create for members of the public. But according to him the reconstruction will be done in a controlled manner.

“It’ll strictly be done in a progressive manner and in phases. It will be ensured that the inconvenience likely to be created for both motorists and pedestrians will be reduced to the barest minimum. Looking at the busy nature of the road the contractor will tackle one lane at a time so that there will be free access to motorists.” he gave the assurance.

Signs that the road was about to be reconstructed started showing about three weeks ago when portions of the Tanoso market were cleared by a bulldozer. It was a swift exercise which might have taken the public by surprise.

Since then the reconstruction has been proceeding in earnest. However, the recent frequent rains have been creating flood situations especially, around the Yaa Asantewaa SHS main wall thus, slowing down the process.

“We still hope that this temporal set back does not give cause for delaying the completion of the project. We want the project to be finished on time.” An Anxious road user remarked.
“We shall vote bum-bum ! if the government gets serious with the construction of this troublesome Tanoso-Abuakwa road for Nana Addo to come December 7.” He remarked.
