Raheem Sterling Sent For Further Checks On Hamstring Injury

Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling has undergone a second scan on his hamstring injury after the first failed to reveal the severity of his issue.

Sterling managed just a few minutes of the Premier League defeat to Manchester City last week but did manage to walk off the pitch, shortly before teammate Christian Pulisic joined him on the treatment table.

While Potter revealed that Pulisic was likely to miss ‘weeks’, he had no specific update on Sterling and The Athletic note that is down to the need for a second scan.

“Christian just opened up his knee in the game the other day so we’re still analysing it. It’s going to be weeks I would say,” the boss explained.

“Raheem just had an action in the first minute that game, a back heel that was a bit strange and he felt something in his hamstring. So again we are analysing that.”

Having also lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a back problem for the weekend’s FA Cup humiliation at the hands of City, Chelsea are currently without no fewer than ten first-team players through injury.

Alongside Sterling, Pulisic and Aubameyang, Chelsea have lost N’Golo Kante, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Ben Chilwell, Armando Broja, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Edouard Mendy.

The Blues have rejigged their medical department behind the scenes but are still awaiting positive results – just one of the many headaches for Potter, whose side have lost six of their last nine games in all competitions.

The Blues’ end a run of two straight meetings with City with a short trip to face seventh-placed Fulham on Thursday, with Crystal Palace and Liverpool also on the agenda for January.
