Prof. Kwesi Botchwey Is A coward For Failing to Make Public Book On NDC’s Defeat In 2016 – Chairman Wontumi

Chairman Wontumi,  on Tuesday  described one of the country’s economic gurus, Professor Kwesi Botchwey, as a coward for failing to make public the book he authored that investigated the factors that led to the NDC’s electoral defeat in 2016,

“If Professor Botchwey had been bold in making public the contents of his book the NDC would not have found itself in the current crisis situation  because the book  identified all the problems that greatly  contributed to the NDC’s defeat in the 2016 elections.”

According to Chairman Wontumi who was speaking as a member of a panel on Wontumi TV/Radio in Kumasi and other news platforms on Tuesday,  Professor Kwesi Botchwey would have become a hero among the NDC “because his book would have cured all the ills of the biggest opposition party in the country and the crisis it currently  finds itself in would not have been possible.”

Chairman Wontumi who  took viewers  and listeners of  Wontumi  TV/Radio and  other news platforms  down memory, recalled the courageous acts by the late Professor Albert Adu Boahen that brought the curtain down on, the  “culture of silence”era

He paid a glowing tribute to the later Professor of History who “brought modern democracy to Ghana through his courage and persistent efforts to bring to an end Ghana’s dictatorship that thrived  before the birth of the fourth Republic.”

“Today we have  freedom of expression which is supported by media pluralism especially in the area of the establishment of FM stations  which are all the outcome of Professor Adu Boahen’s  persistent agitation and courage in fighting the then autocratic system of government.” He said with pride.

According to Chairman Wontumi, the NPP which prides itself as the only party in the country to  introduce democracy on the Ghanaian political landscape faced  several threatening challenges which could have caused a break up  but “they were successfully managed”.

“We have survived all these serious challenges eg. when we had to request our party Chairman to step aside as we were getting closer to an election.  With the role played  by our then dynamic chairman of Elders, C.K. Tedam, and other leaders we succeeded to calm the situation because they insisted on what was in the overall best interest of the party.”

According to Chairman Wontumi “the NPP was able to survive another serious challenge  when Alhaji Dombo had to be substituted by Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia .

“We are not like the NDC  which lacks internal democratic principles. But It appears it  has learnt its lessons because  of the crisis the party has been plunged into over the appointment of John Mahama. Its regrettable  that it is too late.” He said.

“NPP has learnt a lot of  lessons from former President, John Agyekum Kufuor’s wise saying that Its better to be a messenger in a ruling government than to be a General Secretary in a party in opposition. We were in the political  wilderness for 30 years  yet we have   succeeded to bring democracy to the door step of everybody.”

“NDC needs overhauling  and Professor Kwesi Botchwey’s  book would have taught them how to do it.”  Chairman Wontumi observed.
