President Akufo-Addo Embarks On Official Visit To Germany

President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will from Sunday, the 22nd of August 2021, embark on an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany at the invitation of the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.

During the visit, the President is expected to use his multiple engagements to help strengthen and deepen Ghana’s relations with Germany to boost the economic ties of the two countries.

Addressing the Presidential Press Corps at the maiden edition of the newly instituted Jubilee House press briefing, Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, said during the President’s visit, he will deliver a speech at the 75th-anniversary celebration of the formation of the North Rhine–Westphalia state which is Germany’s most popular state and the number industrial region.

*Engagements*

The President he added, will also address a ceremony at the North-Rhine Westphalia Academy of International Politics in Bonn as the guest of honor.

As part of the visit, President Akufo-Addo will hold a meeting with officials of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine manufacturer to discuss the establishment of a National Vaccine Institution in Ghana and procurement of more Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to improve Ghana’s vaccination drive.

Before participating in the G20 Compact with Africa (CWA), an initiative under the German G20 Presidency to promote private investment in Africa, including in infrastructure, the President will meet with the German investment community to promote the country’s investment opportunities and climate.

President Akufo-Addo is scheduled to return to Ghana on the 28th of August 2021.

*Appointment of MMDAs*

As part of the press briefing, Mr. Arhin in answer to a question about the delay in the appointment of substantive Metropolitan, Municipal, District Assembly (MMDAs) officers, indicated that the process put in place by the President for purposes of choosing and appointing MMDAs is complete and the President through the Minister for Local Government and Decentralization, Dan Botwe will soon release the list of the appointees.

*Timelines of Agenda 111*

On the concerns about the timelines for the completion of all projects under the government’s Agenda 111 projects, the communications director indicated that there should not be any challenge with the timelines.

The President he said stated clearly during the launch of the Project that the first 88 projects which commenced on the 17th of August 2021, will be completed in 18 months. The remaining project that is yet to start will also be completed 18 months from their start dates.
