Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah, has inspected some selected ongoing projects in the Region.

Some of the projects he inspected were the re-construction of the demolished 44 year- old Mother and Baby Unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH;) Kejetia Central Market redevelopment site, Race Course Market, Krofrom Market and the Kumasi International Airport.

Speaking after the inspection, the Ashanti Regional Minister said, the poor nature of the KATH MBU justifies the need for the old structure to be demolished and re-constructed.

He said the contractor for the MBU project has revealed that he needs two to three weeks to complete the demolishing of the entire edifice.

Redevelopment Of Central Market

He said, about 50% of the construction is done.

The Ashanti Regional Minister noted that the main challenge of the construction is inadequate space to keep the containers for the equipment, machinery and tools needed for the project.

According to him the contractor needs space for the 500 containers and for that matter the traders behind the main fence would have to be evacuated.

“Very soon we will evacuate them and we will do it for their own good,” he said.

Race Course Market

Hon. Simon Osei Mensah commended a section of the traders who went to KMA to ask for space to construct their own stores at the Race Course.

He told to Nana Owusu Achiaw on the sidelines that, the traders have constructed 1,380 stores on their own , a gesture which he says displays their true sense of patriotism.

He appealed to other traders occupying unauthorized spaces not to be adamant when being re-located.

According to him the Race Course market is being constructed for the benefit of the traders
“We will construct more drains to combat flooding,” he said

KROFROM MARKET
He said the Krofrom Market is near completion.

“Over 2000 trading sheds are almost completed with only their painting and access road construction left.”

KUMASI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
At the Kumasi International Airport, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah said that, the project is 85% completed.

He indicated that construction of the terminal building is almost complete.

According to the Project Manager, Yaw Danquah the Kumasi International Airport would be completed in October 2022.

He disclosed that, the immigration, customs and the aircraft size the airport can accommodate makes it to be international standard.

Hon. Simon Osei Mensah indicated that, he is really satisfied with the progress of work and expressed the hope that the contractors would meet the completion schedule as promised.
