MTN Ghana Foundation Bright Scholarship has awarded 100 needy but brilliant students forming part of the “Reloaded” Bright Scholarship Awards.

Dubbed: ‘Reloaded’, it will offer 300 scholarships to needy but brilliant students in public tertiary institutions.

The Scholarship is designed for year-one undergraduate students and continuing education students at any public higher institution in Ghana and is only available to Ghanaians.

Speaking at the ceremony, MTN Foundation Board Member, Sam Koranteng said the Foundation received 1,600 applications from all the 16 regions of Ghana with 62 males, 38 females including 3 physically challenged persons

He noted that the scholarship covers the cost of tuition, accommodation and a stipend of GHc 1,150 per semester, and other relevant reading materials plus a laptop.

Sam Koranteng explained that the second edition of the Bright Scholarship is called reloaded because it is an enhancement of the first one which had 300 beneficiaries.

“Special attention is given to students pursuing courses in Science, Mathematics, ICT and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and will also cater for physically challenged persons interested in pursuing ICT and Computer Science Courses,” he stressed.

“We are confident that giving priority to these areas will go a long way in driving our progress as a nation and enhancing the skill-sets of our students for the future. Coming out of a global pandemic, we have all realized that there is the need to be adequately equipped with the relevant ICT knowledge, skills and tools” he added.

Sam Koranteng maintained that investment in education remains critical to the MTN Ghana Foundation because they believe that access to education is a must-have in ending extreme poverty.

“It is the most fundamental source of hope, and the most guaranteed path for us all to improve our lives in a sustainable way,” he noted.

The MTN Ghana Foundation is the corporate social responsibility wing of MTN Ghana and is always excited to support education and hence, they have implemented over 87 projects and over 1000 scholarships issued since the Foundation’s inception.
