This Biblical quote from James 1:27 may have influenced the Ashanti Regional Chairman Of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the only “Chairman Wontumi” as he is fondly called to gather a multitude of widows at the Asokwa station of Wontumi TV/Radio to gifted.
At the historic programme the first by the station which is barely two years old, there were the outpouring of heartfelt emotions to show appreciation for the numerous gifts of consumable items donated by Chairman Wontumi as a special Christmas gift for the destitute oldies.
The well-packaged items donated included bags of rice, bottles of cooking oils, sardines, soft drinks and cash
In the past two months, both Wontumi TV and radio and other social platforms had been running consistent advertisements asking members of the public particularly, corporate organizations to rally behind the slogan “Wontumi Kyere Wo do” which like a clarion call, became the thrust of the appeals to gather substantial items for supply to widows.
Speaking to Wontumionline.com at this maiden edition of “Wontumi kyere wo do” which translates as Wontumi demonstrate your love” which is to become an annual affair, Chairman Wontumi asked for God’s blessings for the gathering of widows mostly, women in their later age.
He said, “God should use Christmas as a bridge to help the widows”, adding that, “God should give hope to the hopeless.”
Emotional Chairman Wontumi eulogized, that he respects and love the widow fraternity who had gathered in his company’s premises.
“I’m not doing this just for this Christmas but I will continue to do it on other occasions,” he indicated.
A section of the widows who couldn’t hide their exhilaration commended the Chief Executive Officer of Wontumi Communications for the kind gesture.
They added that God should bless him abundantly for putting smiles on their faces.
“We appreciate what Wontumi has done. God should remember him as he has remembered us,” they said.
The widows however played Oliver Twist by asking for more.
