Peace Campaigner Arrives In Kumasi On Foot From Tamale Enroute To Accra
A 34 year old Ghanaian athlete is combining the display of his skill as a long distance runner and love for the country to walk all the way from Tamale to Accra to appeal for peace in the December election.
Derrick Afotey Lomotey who arrived in Kumasi from Tamale told wontumionline .com that his greatest expectation is that this year’s election will be free from all acts of violence before, during and after.
He called on Ghanaians to see themselves as members of one big family “since we have one destiny.”
“Election related violence has become to frequent on the continent with some of the skirmishes turning into full civil scale wars. That is why we as good citizens we should all be cautious with our acts so that we don’t find ourselves in a situation where our differences will have to be settled through arms conflict.” He said
Afotey Lomotey told wontumionline.com that a special peace walk for Kumasi residents has been scheduled for the 11th of this month.
The peace walk is being organized in collaboration with the Police and other security agencies along some principal streets in Kumasi and appealed to all residents to give their maximum support to the exercise.
According to the long distance runner, the routes for the event will be made ready in due course.
“We have only one country and that is Ghana, so we should all be concerned about its security because if violence breaks out, there is nowhere we can flee to seek refuge.”
