Parliament Can’t Stampede The Supreme Court-Lawyer Issues Strong Warning To MPs

Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Nana Serwaah Acheampong, has said that the Supreme Court is the watchdog of the constitution.

Speaking on the recent allegations raised by some members of parliament on the authenticity of the court’s rulings, she said “the Supreme Court works in the confinement of the law- the law is above everyone and no one can work outside the law. The Court interprets the law and all the arms of government are subjected to the constitution of Ghana”.

“Parliament is on its own but works within the law. The  Court has the right to look at laws made by parliament and if it goes contrary to the law in the delivering of justice, an investigation will be conducted”, she added.

She stressed that anything that goes contrary to the constitution is void.

Recently some minority members of parliament lash out at some Supreme Court judges over rulings which haven’t gone their favour.

According to law experts, the said allegations might lead to the lack of trust in the supreme Court by the general public. The have cautioned people to desist from such act.
