The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase Asokore constituency, Hon. Nana Ayew Afriyie, has revealed that his constituents want the Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta and Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto fired from office.
From the information gathered from interacting with their constituents, Hon. Nana Ayew Afriyie mentioned that “they kept mentioning the names of the Minister of Finance and Agric Minister and called for their resignation”.
New Patriotic Party MPs, numbering about 80, held a press conference on Tuesday to impress on the President to relieve Mr. Ofori-Atta of the responsibility of managing the national purse or risk losing their support for government business going forward.
Speaking on the issue on Wontumi TV, Hon. Ayew Afriyie revealed that the NPP MPs decision to make their opinion public is because they want to boost the confidence of their constituents.
“When we go there they tell us they want the finance minister to resign. The people are angry and some of these decisions; we can’t do it in private”, he said as he clarified the reason for yesterday’s press conference.
He stated that as it stands now, confidence in the finance market is down and removing Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta would bode well for the government.
