Oti Region: Buem MP has doubled his ‘ignorance’ – NPP Regional Youth Org. Rebut

The Youth Orgernizer for New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Oti Region, Prince Amanor has passionately spoken out against the Member of parliament for Buem Constituency, Hon. Kofi Adams who threw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians by indicating that, the next NDC Government would review the underlining principles behind the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE).

In a quick rebuttal, Prince Amanor has expressed his disappointment in Kofi Adams comments, describing the MP’s utterances as a display of ignorance of thought and a complete misunderstanding of educational policies.

The Youth Organizer indicated that, the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) has increased Ghanaians students chances of getting job opportunities in other countries and building their confidence and experience.

Speaking to Wontumi TV/Radio newsmen, Prince Amanor lamented, “he doesn’t deserve the word ‘Honorable’ per his take on the Teacher Licensure Examination”

In his own words, he stated: “The MP for Buem is very ignorant about the Teachers Licensure Exams, It’s very unpardonable for an Honorable Member of Parliament who should know better, who sat in parliament and was part of the people who brought out that legislation and pass it into law to say such a thing. NPP did not start it but came to power and implemented it so what has changed?.

It’s very dangerous for politicians to be playing politics with education in order to score cheap political points, he said. The GTLE has come to stay and therefore the least the lawmaker could do was to encourage the students to learn hard rather than give them a false hope of abolishing the GTLE.

On Hon Adam’s reference to NABCO, Mr Prince said “NABCO beneficiaries are graduates who were not employed by Kofi Adam’s NDC government. Over 100,000 individuals benefited from the program. What’s more appealing is the fact that more than 90% of the NABCO beneficiaries have been employed by this government into the various sectors of our economy. Today, there are contributing their quota to national development unlike during the erstwhile NDC government when there were at home ” .

The youth organizer urged the students to take their studies seriously and also assured them of the government’s willingness to employ every qualified teacher in due time.

BACKGROUND

NDC Government will review GTLE – Hon. Kofi Adams

Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams has indicated that, the next NDC Government would review the underlining principles behind the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE).

Speaking at a Tertiary Education Institute Network (TEIN) meeting at the Jasikan College of Education, the Buem Constituency legislature indicated that, it’s really disturbing to see several trained teachers sitting home because they couldn’t make it through the licensure examination.

“It is very difficult to understand how someone, who has gone through College of Education, undergone the compulsory teaching practice and passed all his examinations would be sitting home whiles someone who has not undergone any form of training in teaching would be posted to teach in the classroom all in the name of NABCO” he stated.

Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams believes if NABCO personnel are qualified to teach, even without license, then newly trained teachers are more than qualified to teach since they have the requisite training to teach in our schools.

According to him, the next government to be formed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), would take a second look at the principles behind the licensure examination and make sure things are put in proper perception.

The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) was introduced in 2018 by the National Teaching Council (NTC) to license teachers in Ghana.

Currently, the council has opened and extended the deadline for registration and urging all students from the Colleges of Education, Universities and other training institutions, who would love to teach in Ghana to register for the examination since the license is a requirement to qualify to teach.

TEIN JASICO Chapter held it’s maiden meeting for the Semester at the Jasikan College of Education Lecture Hall 1 to deliberate on how best to keep the members active with focus on capturing power for the NDC in 2024.

The event was graced by the following Executives of the NDC in the Buem Constituency; Abubakar Sibaway (Constituency Youth Organiser), Carlos Kweku Darko (Dep. Constituency Youth Organiser), Mr. Moses Torkornyo (Constituency Executive Member), Mr. Francis Segbefia (Patron – TEIN JASICO), Agyei Charlotte (Constituency Other Youth) and other party officials.
