Only Valid ID Cards Would Be Acceptable For MoMo Transactions — Eli Hini

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Mobile Money Limited, Mr Eli Hini has urged the public to dutifully present valid national identification cards to transact business with its vendors or agents on the MOMO platform from Friday, the 2nd of April, 2021.

Addressing the media at a virtual forum Thursday morning, Mr Hini said all forms of national ID cards would be accepted by vendors and MOMO agents provided they are valid and in use.

Identification cards such as the National Health Insurance (NHIS) card, Voters Identity card, Ghana Passport, Ghana Card are all acceptable forms of identification that would be in use, the CEO intimated.

Mr Hini also hinted that the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) card as well as Drivers license would also be accepted provided none of the above IDs would be expired at the time of presentation for transaction.

DETAILS:
Explaining the process as may happen at a vendor’s, the MOMO CEO said customers at a point would be asked to show the kind of identification they are using for the transaction.

This, he noted, would require the customer showing the same to the vendor as the latter punches the details on the card onto the system.

The MOMO system, Mr Hini would only allow for the continuation of the process when the ID card presented can be verified and deemed authentic.

He noted anyone who presents a fake or an expired ID card would not be able to continue the process or finish the same since that would be rejected.

The MOMO CEO also stated that persons who would want to withdraw money from their wallets must be physically present with their ID cards to be able to do so.

He noted that persons who may be incapacitated would have to get a doctor’s report to prove same and in addition present their ID cards as well as that of the person who may be standing in as proxy for them to facilitate the process.

COMMITMENT:
Mr Eli Hini explained that the ID card introduced by MTN onto the MOMO system is to safeguard transactions and protect the funds of customers.

The new measure, he noted, is also to cut out the activities of fraudsters whose negative actions had resulted in the loss of funds of its customers.
