Only Akufo-Addo’s Government Thinks About Plight Of Farmers- Agric Minister
The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto says the only government that shows concern about the plight of farmers is President Akufo-Addo’s.
According to him, previous governments always talked about solving the problems of farmers but did not address it.
He said this during a stakeholders meeting of farmers under Planting for Food and Jobs in Kumasi captured by Nana Owusu Achiaw as part of his one-day tour to the Region.
He revealed that, the number of farmers that have benefited from the Planting for Food and Jobs have climbed from two hundred thousand to one and half million.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto indicated that, government has spent Ghc1billion on procurement of fertilizers and crop seeds for the farmers.
Responding to a question by some of the stakeholders on the increase of fertilizer prices, the sector Minister said the price of the fertilizers have shot up because fertilizers are not produced in Ghana.
He indicated that, harmonization are underway between the government of Ghana and that of Morocco to produce some in the country.
He tasked the farmers to help themselves for the government to also help them.
