Obiri Boahen to Alan: “You Owe Kufour a Defense After the Backlash He Faced for Supporting You in 2008

In a scathing rebuke, former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Obiri Boahen, has accused Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen of being ungrateful and bitter.

Lawyer Obiri Boahen criticized Alan Kyerematen, flagbearer of the Movement for Change and Alliance for Revolutionary Change, for holding a grudge over his inability to secure the NPP’s flagbearer position.

The remarks follow Kyerematen’s public disagreement with Former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the ideal candidate for president.

Alan Kyerematen claimed Kufuor, as a former president, should not publicly back any candidate, especially someone he deemed ineffective.

Lawyer Obiri Boahen, however, defended Kufuor’s right to support Bawumia, emphasizing that Kufuor had helped shape the party’s success.

“Kufuor didn’t say anything wrong. The NPP helped him become president. If he believes the country is at a point where Bawumia should take the lead, what’s the problem with that?”

He reminded Kyerematen that in 2007, Kufuor faced harsh criticism for backing Alan during the flagbearer race, and suggested that Alan, rather than Kufuor, should have been the one to condemn those attacks.

Lawyer Obiri Boahen also recalled how Alan Kyerematen’s actions in 2007 had led to divisions within the party, undermining unity and causing delegates to reject Stephen Ntim as the flagbearer.
