NPP’s Top-Down Approach Was Misunderstood By People – Evans Nimako

The Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Evans Nimako, has said that some people did not understand the party’s top-down approach strategy, which involves electing a flagbearer before other executives of the party.

He made the statement on Wontumi TV’s morning show, hosted by Oheneba Asiedu, where he said people had the wrong idea about the system, believing top-down meant presidential primaries first, followed by national and regional executive elections, then constituency and polling station executive elections.

The Director of Elections said the approach was necessary because the party was following through on the recommendations of the Professor Mike Oquaye election review committee.

“Some people did not understand the top-down approach strategy adopted by the party. The reason for the approach is that after the 2024 election, the party set up a review committee led by Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye. After several consultations with party members, they identified this approach as the right one to help rebuild the party,” he said.

His comments come on the back of recent successes the party has had in its ongoing internal elections, particularly the successful completion of regional executive elections held on August 15. Many in the party have described it as a step in the right direction, saying the party’s reorganisation agenda is on track.

The next item on the agenda is the national executive election, which was initially slated for September but later postponed to October 3, 2026. Nominations have already opened for party members with ambitions to contest, and will run until August 22.
