NPP Votes In Ashanti Region Never Came Down In 2020- Chairman Wontumi Corrects Ken Agyapong

The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has dispelled notions that the votes of his party came down during the 2020 elections.

Speaking to the press yesterday, the NPP Chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi stated that despite the pandemic that struck the world in 2020, the NPP managed to make close to 200,000 more votes to add up to what they recorded in 2016.

He comments were a direct response to the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong who had earlier alleged that the votes of the NPP reduced in Ashanti region because he wasn’t part of their campaign.

“In 2020 our votes didn’t come down as he said. In 2016, we got over 200000 additional votes to add up to what we got from 2012. Then in 2020 we needed only 50 votes for us to make 200000 votes. Ashanti did well in 2020. With the 2016 elections, there was no problem or pandemic so we moved to every constituency”, Chairman Wontumi explained.

To achieve this, Chairman Wontumi stated that he had to personally pay moneys to Kumasi based Ashh FM, a station owned by Kennedy Agyapong to help with the campaign they were running in 2020 due to the pandemic.

“During the 2020 elections, apart from my Wontumi TV and Radio, I gave money to Ashh FM for us to campaign within all the 47 constituencies”, Chairman Wontumi said.
