NPP Gov’t Has Made Giant Steps In Transforming The Railway Sector- Joe Ghartey

Minister for Railways Development, Hon. Joe Ghartey, has given credit to the NPP government under Nana Akufo-Addo, for monumentally developing the Railways Sector since the days of Governor Gordon Guggisberg in the pre-colonial era.

He said that, by the timely intervention of President Akufo-Addo what would have happened to the Railways Development would have been disgusting.

He said since the railway lines were inactive some of the railway lines and terminals were turned into market places.

Hon. Ghartey in an interview with Nana Konadu Abu Prah on Wontumi TV & Radio on Thursday said that, Ghana’s railway system has been transformed in such a way that it has even strengthened his faith in God for the past three years.

“Since the transformation started my faith in God has deepened because it’s a what God can do.” He noted.

He bemoaned that, before the assumption of office by the NPP, the sector didn’t have an office not staff but the immense support by President Akufo-Addo and the patience of Ghanaians have helped to change and transform the sector.

The Railways Development Minister noted that as part of the process of transformation the narrow gauges have been changed to standard gauges.

The Minnister who is the Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan lamented that, the last time a train moved from Accra to Kumasi was in 2001.

“Between Professor John Evans Atta Mills and John Mahama’s era only 15.6km of railway lines were constructed but the Akufo-Addo’s era has seen the construction of 102 kilometer of railway lines.” He noted

According to him, by 2030 the country would have finished with the implementation of railway master plan adding that by the 2023 the first passenger train will take off.

Hon. Ghartey emphasized that per the transformation of the Railway sector, Nana Akufo-Addo, deserves another four years to do more
