NPP Executives Council Of Elders Disassociate Themselves From Press Conference To Get MCE Removed

Key Executives of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Council of Elders at Atebubu-Amanten,  Mr Adjei Mathew, Chairman of the Council of Elders and Mr. Gyan John, Secretary of the Council of Elders have affirmed that they have disassociated themselves from a press conference that was conducted by some members of the party to get the Municipal Chief Executive for the vicinity, Hon. Edward Owusu removed.

Some few days ago, a group of people known as members of the Atebubu-Amanten NPP Council of Elders, led by Mr Alfred Antwi held a Press Conference calling on the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not to re-appoint their incumbent MCE, Hon. Edward Owusu.

During the press conference, they alleged among other things that; their MCE, Hon. Edward Owusu does not have very good relationship with the rank and file of the party.

They said that, the MCE is divisive adding that, he has not been able solve their long standing water crisis, “he has taken his wife and kids to the United Kingdom so that they would not feel the hardship of the water crisis, he has amassed wealth and currently has over thirty(30) tipper trucks.”

However, during an interview on a local radio station in Atebubu-Amanten, the Chairman and the Secretary of the Atebubu-Amanten NPP Council of Elders have disassociated themselves from the said Press Conference.

In unison, the duo said they are not aware of any Press Conference by the Constituency Council of Elders. They maintained that they being key members of the Council of Elders, thus Chairman and Secretary, nothing of that sort could happen without their prior knowledge. As Council, they have not held any meeting to discuss the organization of any such Press Conference so the public should disregard the said Press Conference.

Moreover, they maintained that, as Council of Elders, their core mandate is to ensure that there is peace and unity in the party in order for the party to be more appealing to the public so that they could win elections, however, the purported Press Conference would rather bring division in the party therefore, they disassociate themselves and condemn it without mincing words.

Again, they maintained that even if those elders of the party who had the Press Conference have any reservation about the MCE, the party has several internal mechanisms that could be explored in order to address their concerns amicably but the Press Conference was indeed a bad option since that is tantamount to the “washing of our dirty clothes in the public”.

The duo again maintained that, as key members of the Party, they can say without equivocation that the current MCE, Hon. Edward Owusu has done his best in terms of infrastructural development. “He also has a very good working relationship with the rank and file of the party and they do not have any problem with him.”

The duo concluded by saying that they recognize that the President is the only one mandated to appoint an MCE and it is only one person that would get appointed and whoever gets appointed, in the interest of the party, they and the rank and file of the party would support the person.

They therefore pleaded with all the party members to cease fire and desist from Press Conferences and behaviours that would bring disunity in the party since “divided, we fall but together, we stand”
