No Panic; Indian Strain Not New Disease- Dr. Nsiah Asare

Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, has appealed to Ghanaians not to panic as a new variant of COVID-19 has been detected.

According to him, the Delta (Indian Variant) is not new disease in the system.

He said on ‘The Privilege Morning Show’ on Wontumi Radio/TV that, the Delta Strain is the same as the Wuhan and the UK strains that were detected in the country last year.

According to him, the COVID-19 is like a chameleon that keeps changing itself.

Dr. Nsiah Asare revealed that, six foreigners have contracted the Indian Strain and have been isolated.

“We haven’t noticed that some persons have contracted the new variant in the communities. If you test positive for the Delta Strain you would be isolated until you test negative,” he said.

The Presidential Advisor on Health told Nana Konadu Abu Prah that,it is not true the AstraZenica and Sputnik V vaccines are not effective against the Indian variant.

According to him, UK has detected the Delta Strain and those who got vaccinated did not die when they contracted the Delta Strain.

“Everybody should be vaccinated to protect himself and others,” he urged.

Dr. Nsiah Asare bemoaned bitterly that, Ghanaians especially people of Kumasi have stopped observing the the preventive protocols.

He cautioned that anyone who has not been vaccinated should adhere to the safety protocols.

“We don’t want to experience what happened in January, February and March. Let us continue to wear the nose mask and observe the protocols,” he pleaded.

He said that, until Ghana gets immunity no one is safe from the coronavirus.

The Presidential Advisor on Health called on Ghanaians to be united to fight against the spread of the disease.
