The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Paul Yandoh, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over what he describes as its failure to fulfill key education-related campaign promises.
Speaking on the Wontumi Morning Show hosted by Oheneba Nana Asiedu, Mr. Yandoh alleged that the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, is facing challenges within the ministry and is not receiving adequate support from his own government.
“It appears that nothing is working well in the education sector, and even his own party is not supporting him,” Mr. Yandoh claimed.
He further alleged that there have been disagreements between the Education Minister and the Administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), suggesting that major financial decisions within the ministry are being influenced by the fund.
“I heard that he had a confrontation with the GETFund Director. All the money for the ministry is being controlled by GETFund. Nothing seems to be working for Hon. Haruna Iddrisu,” he stated.
Mr. Yandoh also accused the NDC government of failing to deliver on promises made during the 2024 general elections, particularly regarding higher education.
“They promised that there would be no school fees for first-year university students, but up till now that promise has not been fulfilled. Is this what we call good governance?” he questioned.
The NPP communicator additionally expressed concern over delays in payments owed to teachers, claiming that some educators have worked for several years without receiving their full entitlements.
“There are reports that the government is considering a payment plan for teachers. The question is, how much are they owed before we start talking about payment plans?” he asked.
Mr. Yandoh also highlighted the plight of teachers living with disabilities, arguing that vulnerable citizens should not be neglected.
“A disabled person who struggled to become a teacher should not be neglected. If vulnerable people in our society are not treated fairly, then the rest of us cannot feel secure,” he said.
He called on the government to address the concerns of teachers, fulfill its campaign commitments, and implement measures aimed at improving the country’s education system.
