The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has accused the National Democratic Congress, the party’s flagbearer and the National Chairman of being behind the resurgence of the Western Togoland secessionists.

Speaking on the Security Tips show which airs on Wontumi TV on every Saturday night, the NPP Chairman insisted that certain comments which have been made by Chairman Ofosu-Ampofo, gives credence to the stance of the NDC to make Ghana ungovernable under the NPP.

Making direct reference to the content of the leaked audio tape of the NDC’s National Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako stated that “we have a tape about Ofosu Ampofo saying that they are going to make the country ungovernable” and linked it to what is currently happening in the Volta region.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo and another NDC executive, Mr. Boahen, are on trial over the tape which captures how the opposition NDC was allegedly planning to commit crimes in the country and turn round to blame them on the ruling NPP.

Among the strategies were the creation of a general state of insecurity in the country through kidnappings, arson and verbal attacks on public officials like the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof. Emmanuel Asante, and Electoral Commission boss, Jean Mensa.

Mr. Antwi-Boasiako who is popularly known as Chairman Wontumi explained that “when you do a postmortem of what he (Ofosu-Ampofo) said on the tape, I can relate it to what is currently happening in the country at Volta region.

He called out the NDC and their flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, for fueling the nauseating activities through Western Togoland secessionists in the Volta region.

NDC, Ofosu-Ampofo and John Mahama can’t separate themselves from what is happening”, Chairman Wontumi said.

In a related development, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said government and security agencies have identified the sources of funding and key actors behind the Western Togoland secessionist group.

In view of that, he said, the security agencies had taken stringent measures to deal with it decisively and publish names of key actors on the watch list in the coming days, in order to forestall any future occurrence.
