A decision by President Akufo-Addo to build a national Cathedral to honor God, is one that has really pained key members of the National Democratic Congress, Hon. Stephen Amoah has said.
The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso constituency hinted on Wontumi TV that the NDC were nursing an ambition to build the National Cathedral and were not happy President Akufo-Addo has brought the project to fruition.
He explained that unlike doing it for God, the NDC wanted to do it for a political reason.
According to him, the commissioning of the National Mosque complex by President Akufo-Addo damaged the NDC and for him to build the National Cathedral, makes the situation worse for the NDC.
On Friday, 16th July 2021, President Akufo-Addo, commissioned the National Mosque of Ghana Complex, at a brief ceremony at Nima.
The edifice contains a grand mosque which is the second largest in West Africa, an office complex for the National Chief Imam, a clinic fitted with laboratories and a pharmacy, a library and a morgue.
On the National Cathedral, President Akufo-Addo made a personal contribution of GH¢100,000 towards the construction of the National Cathedral.
President Akufo-Addo made the contribution when he launched the National Cathedral Fundraising Campaign, on Friday, 28th December, 2018, at the forecourt of the State House, Accra.
