Nationwide Schools Re-opening Disinfections: Western, Western North and Central Regions Schools Benefit.
Schools in the Western, Western North and Central regions have benefited from the ongoing nationwide schools re-opening disinfection exercises in line with the President’s directive to nip the covid-19 pandemic in the bud.
Ms Deborah Quansah, the Assistant Head, Domestic of Archbishop Porter Girl’s School says the school is now adequately prepared to receive students after Zoomlion Ghana Limited carried out massive covid-19 disinfection exercise in the school.
Classrooms, science laboratory, infirmary, dormitories dinning hall, mess including the school environment benefited from the exercise which is geared towards the combat of the corona virus.
Apart from the Ministry of Education and Zoomlion led disinfection intervention, Ms. Quansah disclosed that the Takoradi based second cycle education institution had put a covid-19 monitoring team comprising of teachers in place to steer affairs regarding the disease.
The school according to her would provide masks, hand sanitizers, hand tissue to all students when they report and place veronica buckets at vantage points in the school for the purpose of hand washing.
To ensure social distancing and respect for all covid-19 protocols, students she said would eat in batches when it comes to eating schedule at the dinning hall.
Should in case there is any reported case of covid-19 in the school, Ms Quansah said her outfit has infirmary managed by competent nurses to handle the situation.
She assured parents of the safety of their wards from covid-19 virus.
She commended Ministry of Education and Zoomlion for the disinfection intervention, saying it would provide a safe environment for all stakeholders in the teaching and learning space.
The Zoomlion disinfection team also visited Ghana Secondary Technical school and Adiembra senior high secondary school in the western region for a similar exercise.
Mr William Kweku Takyi, the acting head master of Adiembra senior high school said his outfit has put in place covid-19 structures to ensure the safety of students and teachers.
Mr. Samuel Adu, the Western region and Western North Vector Control Manager of Zoomlion in an interview said the disinfection exercise would be periodic until the Ghana Health Service gives directive that the virus has come under control.
746 basic schools and 20 senior high school according him are expected to benefit from the disinfection exercise.
At central region, the disinfection team stormed cape coast technical university, Mfantsipim college, Adisadel college, St. Augustine college, Wesley Girls High School, a number of vocational institutions including cape coast special school of the deaf to perform their core functions.
A 10 member covid-19 monitoring team according to Ms Kay Oppong Ankomah, the Headmistress of Wesley Girls High School, had been put in place to manage affairs regarding corona virus.
She revealed that there would be no social gathering activity except church sessions, stressing that, students would eat in batches regarding issues food in the dinning hall in accordance with social distancing protocol.
Other corona virus protocols, Ms Oppong Ankamah, explained would be respected.
On his part, Gideon Sogbey, the Central Region Control Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited said 129 senior high schools and in excess of 1955 basic schools are expected to benefit from the intervention in the region.
