Nana Ama Ampomah Shows Skills At The Basketball Court With PWDs.
The Ashanti Regional Women’s organiser, Nana Ama Ampomah on Easter Saturday surprised the Kings College branch of the Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) as she played with them on the basketball court.
Sitting in a wheelchair just as the PWDs, the NPP women’s leader spent about 30mins on the court displaying some skills unknown to many.
Even though sweat could be seen on her face, many attested to the seriousness the NPP leader had attached to the game.
Speaking to media men at the end of the game, Madam Ampomah said she loved basketball when she was schooling but had abandoned that after school.
‘’I am a lover of basketball and I enjoyed it while in school just that the activities I find myself doing nowadays restricts me but I believe even when we are not playing we should support these brilliant and athletic PWDs to enjoy the sport’’, the NPP women’s leader intimated.
CALL FOR SUPPORT:
Madam Ampomah called for support from corporate and individual organizations for the PWDs into sports.
She noted that such assistance would urge them to play to their full potential since they would know many are interested in welfare.
The women’s leader who is also the CEO of Ampomah Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) pledged her commitment to the group.
She promised to assess the requests they have put before her and support with what she can mobilize for their upkeep.
‘’Let’s show support for the needy and especially to PWDs since their wellbeing goes to say a lot about us as Ghanaians and as a people’’, Madam Ampomah.
CHAIRMAN OF THE GROUP:
Speaking with some excitement, Mr Kwesi Kyei, a PWD himself and Chairman for PWDs in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) commended the Women’s organiser for the gesture.
He said this was the first time a politician or leader of a group had played with them and amongst them since the group was put together.
Mr Kyei noted that for the NPP regional women’s organizer to spend over an hour playing and mingling with them showed humanness.
He called on others to emulate the attitude of Madam Ampomah so as to attract the blessings of God.
