Nana Addo, Append Your Signature To Appiah Menka University- Univ. Heads Cry Out
University Teachers of Association of Ghana(UTAG) and College of Technology Education (COLTEK) have jointly, called on President Akufo-Addo to exercise his constitutional obligation by appending his signature to the Akenten- Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development bill to give it the executive power it deserves to enter into full force within the shortest possible time.
“We the members of the University Teachers of Association of Ghana(UTAG) College of Technology Education (COLTEK) express our heartfelt gratitude to President Nana Akufo-Addo for converting the Kumasi and Mampong campuses of University of Education (UEW) into full-fledge autonomous University.” The Chairman of the two education bodies, Stephen Baffour Adjei told Wontumionline.com in a press conference
According to the Chairman of the educational bodies,Stephen Baffour Adjei this move by Nana Akufo-Addo is a demonstration of his firm commitment towards the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
He affirmed that, the elevation of COLTEK and CAGRIC to a full fledge autonomous University will provide higher education in TVET.
“We therefore pledge our continued support and commitment to the industrialization agenda of the Republic of Ghana. It is a public knowledge that COLTEK and CAGRIC of UEW have kept faith with the mandate of training highly qualified technical and vocational teachers and other professionals who currently occupy responsible positions in society. We shall continue to demonstrate this support through our professional effort to institute innovative and transformational curricular within the context of competency based training, ea+ner- centered and problem based learning techniques that are practical and relevant to TVET and in line with the Ghana harmonized Competency-based training pedagogy.” He said
Mr. Baffour Adjei, however heaped praises on his Royal Majesty, Otumfour Osei Tutu II for his good counsel and support for the cause of COLTEK and TVET education.
“We further express our sincere thanks to the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Hon. Minister of state in charge of Tertiary Education, Hon. Prof. Kwasi Yankeh, MP for Abuakwa North, Gifty Twum Ampofo, Nana Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu, Nana Atwimahene, Nana Antwi Agyei Berempong II etc. for their excellent role they played in drafting and ensuring the passage of the Akenten-Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development bill.
