Mahama, Prof Opoku Agyemang: Enemies of Teachers-NPP Chairman

The Second Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Richard Asante, has described Former President John Dramani Mahama, as enemies of teachers in the country.

The appearance of these personalities, he said, provokes teachers at both basic and second cycle schools in Ghana.

Speaking to a section of the media, Mr Asante, who is a member of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), expressed dissatisfaction in the appointment of Prof Naana Opoku Agyemang, Former Minister for Education.

According to him, teachers are infuriated following the introduction of the three months’ salary policy, which was introduced by Prof Opoku Agyemang under Mahama administration.

Mr Asante, who described such policy as a wicked decision disclosed that teacher were forced to take only three months salary arrears irrespective of the number of months or years taught.

According to him, life became unbearable since teachers were forced to forgo such arrears under Mahama administration.

The Vice Chairman also expressed regret at the decision by Prof Opoku Agyemang and Former President Mahama to cancel the nurses and teacher trainees allowance.

This, he said, made such trainees to witness hardships during their studies in the pursuit of their professional training.

Mr Asante therefore praised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for cancelling such wicked policy and restoring the allowance for such trainees.

He was also grateful to the Nana Addo administration for upgrading colleges of education to a degree awarding status.

Mr Asante commended government for the successful introduction of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy, which he said, has directly reduced the financial burdens of parents.
