A member of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. George Ackom has strongly criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government led by President John Dramani Mahama over what he describes as the unnecessary increases in fuel prices and the rising cost of goods and services.
Speaking in an interview with the host of the Wontumi Morning Show, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, Mr. Ackom argued that the current fuel prices in Ghana are unsustainable.
He further alleged that the NDC government may be looking for another way to deceive Ghanaians rather than addressing the underlying economic challenges.
According to him, when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was in government, the then opposition NDC heavily criticized the NPP over fuel prices, accusing the government of failing to manage the situation effectively.
He said the criticisms were, in his view, politically motivated and intended to help the NDC gain political power.
“When we, the NPP, were in power, the then opposition party, which is currently in power, criticized the NPP just for their selfish interests. They blamed us for not being able to handle the fuel prices, but they criticized us just to gain power.”
Mr. Ackom questioned why President John Dramani Mahama, who has previously served as President, is struggling to deal with the current fuel price situation.
“President Mahama has been in the seat before, so I am still wondering how he is struggling to handle the fuel prices. Mahama cannot run away from reality.”
He also criticized the government’s approach to managing the cedi-dollar exchange rate, arguing that simply injecting money into the economy to suppress the dollar would not provide a lasting solution to Ghana’s economic challenges.
“They think pumping money into the system just to suppress the dollar will solve the economic system.”
