President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to live and demonstrate exemplary lives coupled with a sense of duty and responsibility as the nation honours the lives of the eight fallen heroes in last year’s tragic helicopter crash.
One year on after the sad incident that sent shockwaves across the nation, government organized an Inter-Faith Memorial Service to honour the lives of the eight men who tragically lost their lives while en-route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region for an anti- illegal mining event.
Speaking at the memorial service, the President said the lives of the eight men will not be forgotten as they will still live on, in the minds and hearts of Ghanaians.
He urged Ghanaians including himself to not let the deaths be in vain, but it must become a platform for everybody to honour them by living with integrity and statesmanship.
“Let us honour the departed by serving our nation with greater integrity. Let us honour them by placing duty above Self interest, let us honour them by treating one another with greater kindness. Let us honour them by building a Ghana where every citizen feels that their service matters and every sacrifice is remembered,” the President said.
President Mahama also said the memories and lives of the departed will forever live on in the story of the nation because they served the nation with hearts of commitment and called for their “memory to continue to inspire us. May their sacrifice strengthen our resolve to build a better nation and may the Almighty God grant them eternal rest and perpetual light,” he said.
