Lionel Messi Set To Hand In Transfer Request To Barcelona
The Argentina international has been very instrumental in the Catalunya club’s success in almost two decades and was thought of as never going to leave the club but recent failures by the Barcelona’s board has led to an amazing turnaround by Messi concerning his future.
According to several high profile journalists and media outlets in Europe, the player is seeking fresh ambitions and wants a move out of the club.
Journalist Alfredo Martinez tweeted his opinion on this potentially massive transfer out of Barcelona. He said, “Today is a very sad day for Barça fans. Leo Messi announces that he does not want to continue at Barcelona. After 29 years and 17 in the professional squad, the greatest player in history wants to go, and Bartomeu stays. The president who has not been able to retain him cannot continue.”
Former England international Gary Lineker says Barcelona must be respectful of Messi’s legacy at the club and treat his possible transfer maturely.
The reports indicate Messi will activate a release clause in his deal with Barcelona which was due to expire on June 10.
Should Messi leave Barcelona after 29 years of stay at the La Liga club, it is bound to be the biggest deal in transfer history.
