The Joint Ghana-Togo Boundary Reaffirmation Technical Committee has recommended the replacement of displaced, damaged, and missing pillars along the International Boundary of the two countries.
The initiative will verify and establish the precise and legally binding regulations of the land boundary of the countries.
The committee is therefore engaging and educating the local communities and opinion leaders at Likpe Mate and adjoining towns in the Guan district of the Oti region about the relevance of the re-affirmation exercise.
The National Coordinator of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Kotia, said due to the lack of proper, unidentifiable boundary lines, there have been trespasses by people from both sides, which is not their fault. Hence, the reaffirmation will help modernise land records, ensure alignment with local and international regulations, and foster peaceful co-existence, cross-border cooperation, and communication among relevant stakeholders.
Officials from the Togo side said they are encouraged by the warm reception accorded them by their Ghanaian counterparts and pledged their readiness to sensitise their people and make sure the exercise is successful.
