Light Shines On The Three “Sex Organ Towns”, DCE Expresses Joy
Thirteen rural communities in the Birim North District in the Eastern Region, among them Etwe Nim Nyansa, Kote Ye Aboa and Hwoa Nim Nyansa whose request for the extension of electricity provoked a prolonged national laughter in Parliament and across the country two years ago have had their wishes fulfilled.
DCE Hon Raymond Nana Damptey who revisited the issue when he took his turn on Wontumi TV/Radio flagship programme, Election 2020, confirmed that the request for the extension of electricity to the 13 communities have long been granted.
The issue provoked spontaneous laughter because of the funny names of the three towns. In Akan culture sex organs are too obscene to been mentioned in public most especially in an august house such as Parliament where the nation’s most Honourable men and women gather in trendy suits and flashy traditional ware to debate issues in pure English.
In such an environment it was unthinkable to mention the towns names but the MP summoned courage by calling out the names one after the other as he made his point clearer “We need electricity in these communities.”
But dramatically, instead of being spurned or despised, the MP inadvertently created room for his colleagues to express an interest by breaking into a spontaneous laughter.
“Now they all the 13 rural communities have access to electricity even though the their request generated a national excitement when the strange names of the three unique communities, Etwe Nim Nyansa, Kote Ye Aboa and Hwoa Ye Mobo were mentioned on the floor of Parliament by Hon John Osei Frempong in July 2018.
Hon Damptey told Oheneba Nana Asiedu, the host, that residents of the three communities are very happy that their request has been granted even though, it was nearly drowned by the drama and euphoria that welcomed it.
The DCE expressed special gratitude to Hon Boakye Agyarko, who was then the Minister of Energy for expressing a deep interest in the plight of residents by agreeing to do everything possible to do the people’s bidding.
The other beneficiary communities are Asawase, Bramkrom, Domeabra, Asarekrom, Kuntenase, Asuabena, Dodoworaso, Teimuni, Bepotumtum and Abohema.
The DCE added that the provision of infrastructural projects in the district has opened up several deprived areas of the district.
He said the Health Sector has attracted a lot of attention with the construction of new health facilities or rehabilitation of existing ones.
The construction of health centres has gone on at Akoase and Pankese with the small community of Old Abirem being provided with a CHPs compound.
“We have also renovated the Noyem CHPs compound as well as the one at Nyagoman
On market facilities, Hon Damptey said 32 unit lockable stores have been constructed at New Abirem. Another 30 unit market stores have been built at New Abrem while a 48-unit markets sheds have been constructed at Nkorang.
The Road network in the area is not too bad with the key projects being undertaken including the construction of the Adansena inner city roads, bitumen surfacing of the road linking Abren with Oda as well as the improvement of the Namso town roads and those at Nkorang.
Hon Damptey disclosed that a lot of resources have been mobilized to improve the water and sanitation sub-sector.
“So far there has been the construction of 15 boreholes in the districts. These include the construction of a mechanized bore hole at the New Abirem market. We have introduced an equipment repair programme for the bore holes with the beneficiary communities.” He said.
A 12- seater water closet facility fitted with a mechanized bore hole at Mpintinpi has also been provided.
Education which has become a major feature of the government’s infrastructural provision
blue print has witnessed a massive improvement in the last three years.
According to Mr. Damptey a three-unit classroom block and 14 one storey unit classroom blocks have been provided in the area as well as the construction of a 3-unit classroom block and ancillary facility at Nwinso.
“We have also supplied 2,643 dual desks for schools in the District.” He said.
On security, Hon Damptey explained that police posts have been built at Nyom and Kwarteng while the residence of the District Magistrate at New Abrem has been provided a fence wall.
