Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority, (NHIA) has defended former President John Dramani Mahama against claims that he is in favor of the LGBTQ+ community.
During the former President’s regime, there were lots of criticisms against him, particularly, when it was reported that he was associated with a gay lobbyist named Andrew Solomon.
Adding his voice to calls for the passing of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill into law to prohibit homosexual practices in Ghana, Dr. Okoe Boye opened up on his position on former President John Mahama’s alleged allegiance to the homosexual community.
Speaking on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ show monitored by wontumionline.com, the former law maker noted that there is no way the former President can be said to be gay because he has proven to Ghanaians that he is a heterosexual man.
To him, looking at Mr. Mahama’s family, he doesn’t believe Mahama is gay, however, he added, the former President unlike sitting President Nana Akufo-Addo failed to openly declare his position against the LGBTQ+ community during his administration.
“If someone tells me that JM is a gay, I will tell you is a lie. The deed speaks more words. He is not gay but when he was President for 4 years, I don’t recall any platform he stood on to condemn gayism,” he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.
