Let’s Work Towards Using Environmentally Friendly Items —- Napo To Queen Mothers.
Minister for Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh has appealed to QUEEN mothers across the country to consciously educate their subjects to use environmentally friendly items and measures in their daily life.
Interacting with members of the National Association of QUEEN MOTHERS at the National House of Chiefs during a two-day stakeholder engagement on National Energy Transition Plan, Dr Napo said the environment would be safer for all if practical steps are taken to limit the use of items and measures that pollute the atmosphere.
He noted that women across the country engage in a lot of stuff including cooking and the roasting of various foods that get them to inhale fumes or smoke.
This, he noted has an effect on both their health as well as the environment.
INITIATIVE:
The government’s National Energy Plan, he explained was therefore aimed at helping the public especially Queens mothers who are also leaders in communities in the country to get education on how to reduce the burning of charcoal and other items that put them in harm’s way as well as the environment.
Dr Napo stressed that government was aware of the important role energy plays in the life of people but noted that without the necessary caution both the lives of persons in the country as well as the environment would suffer severe implications.
The world, he noted has been producing enough heat and energy at detrimental amounts to both the environment and humans.
The inhalation of fumes from cars and other lifestyle activities such as smoking, the Minister noted has a terrible effect on humans and urged that women, particularly, learn to reduce the use of items that would have them burn charcoal or use fire wood.
REPRESENTATIVE OF PRESIDENT OF HOUSE OF CHIEFS:
Odeefuo Amoakwa Boadu VIII, Representative of the President of the National of House of Chiefs thanked the Ministries of Energy and Transport for the National Energy Plan.
The plan, he noted would help to conscientize the public to desist from ventures that pollute the environment and cause desertification in areas that used to have green vegetation.
He however urged government to make available alternative items identified to be energy friendly to the public and at reduced costs.
He noted that modern stoves such as the one designed in Ghana by Gyapa could be made available in large quantities and at affordable prices to the Ghanaian populace so as to enable them use same and reduce the emissions of smoke and fumes that destroy the environment.
