Let’s Use Decent Language To Convey Complaints Or Concerns — Kumasi Mayor Appeals.

Hon Samuel Pyne, Kumasi Mayor.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne has appealed to residents in the metropolis to learn to use decent language in getting their complaints and concerns across to authorities.

He noted that it is the best way of doing things rather than the use of insults and hate speech.

Speaking to this reporter from Spain where he was meeting potential investors and partners of development, Hon Pyne said he was recently taken aback when some residents who had called to a Kumasi-based radio station, Silver FM used unprintable insults on his person and others.

He said the issue was to do with the recent burst pipe at the redeveloped Kejetia market.

DETAILS:
The Mayor educated that the market has management that takes care of the day-to-day activities of the place.

As Mayor, he disclosed that he was only a board chairman of the Market but despite that he was in constant touch with the management to see that they work to make the place habitable and comfortable at all times for traders.

Narrating what happened,  the Mayor said upon hearing of the burst pipe he quickly called the MD of the Market and inquired about how they were working to resolve that.

“Immediately the matter of the burst pipe came to my attention I called the MD of the Market and swiftly he was able to get the workers from Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to attend to the problem and fix same”,

ADMONITION:
The Mayor has therefore urged media houses, especially on air presenters and morning show hosts to guide and guard their audiences when they are to call into the shows so that no one verbally abuse or use unprintable insults on persons who have taken time to build their lives and careers.

He particularly mentioned that if the morning show host at Silver fm had demonstrated that he knew his craft he would not have started the insults and also allowed respondents to join in the fray.

The Mayor said it takes only a phone call to get authorities to explain issues at their outfits than to ignorantly insult just because one has the advantage of sitting behind a microphone at the studios.

“Some of us have been well brought up and we talk over issues without the use of foul language and when there is a matter to be resolved we look for solutions using decent language and not the deployment of indecent speech. I pray my media friends take this caution in good faith so that they do not allow anybody to verbally abuse those in authority”, the Mayor stressed.
